Colegio Publico Loyola De Palacio

A little snippet of my school in the morning light

My school placement is at a public primary school in Villa de Vallecas. The age range is from infantil (3 years of age) to 6th grade (usually about 12 years of age). From what I have learned from friends and the teachers I work with, Loyola de Palacio is a fairly large school and in a relatively impoverished area. This means that the students are coming from a background/home life that may have an effect on their school work. Their home lives may also effect the way they show up to class. I feel lucky to work there because I get to work with five other auxiliars, and I like the teachers I get to work with. In addition, our bilingual coordinator does a great job working with each of us and tried to make schedules based on our preferences of scheduling.

I work primarily with 5th grade classes. The four different 5th grade classes I work with cover three different subjects: English, Natural Science, and Physical Education. I enjoy this age because I am able to build relationships with the students in a more mature manner and get to know them in various ways (depending on their level of English) as they are able to get to know me as well.
